🌳 Elspeth Spindle lives in the misty, sinister, foresty kingdom of Blunder. Elspeth has a monster living inside her head. The Nightmare protects her and keeps her secrets. She hasn’t told a soul for 11 years until she gets roped into a treasonous quest to save the kingdom from the mists.
🌳 I absolutely loved the gothic setting, the unique magic system involving a deck of cards, and the found family! The main reason this wasn’t a 5 star read for me is because I didn’t entirely love Elspeth. She exposes a well-kept secret very early on for no reason other than to get the main plot of this book rolling. I personally wish we could have done that another way. I am very much looking forward to reading the second book in this duology.
