  • Are You Ready To Give Up Skinny Jeans?

Gen Z has been yelling at us Millennials for years to give up our skinny jeans! We’ve already been seeing the shift in the stores on what styles are available to purchase. Have you given your skinny jeans up yet, because I sure haven’t. It’s a good thing I wear my denim until they literally wear out, often 10+ years. The conversation came back to my attention after watching this viral Instagram Reel from blogger Cassie Scroggins. I was appalled by the comments. Many woman took her reel as a personal attack on their fashion choices. Who knew this was such a heated topic? I am looking forward to following…

  • Summer Workout Plan: EPIC Heat

I don’t usually share about my workout plans but I’m trying to branch out. I am a big fan of at-home workouts, and Caroline Girvan quickly became a favourite these past few years. As a certified trainer, Caroline’s programs are well rounded and effective. I have completed quite a few of her programs at this point. Her smile and positive attitude keep me coming back, and I love her video format. She gives a thorough introduction, then no talking throughout the workout using a timer beep, text on screen, and a clip showing the upcoming exercise. This summer I was looking for something relatively quick (under 45min), with a cardio…

  • My Super Simple Budget

When I first moved out of my parents house, I searched the Internet for a starting point on how to budget. Why don’t they teach you these things in school? During my years in university, working part-time, living in a small inner city apartment with my now husband, this is the budget I started with and tweaked along the way, and what I’ve reverted back to now, as a stay at home mom. Before I get started, I want to lay down some facts about my particular situation, as I know this budget is not feasible for everyone. Jeremy was working a full-time, well paying job. He ‘could’ handle our…

  • Planning a Low-Key, At-Home Birthday Party

I still cannot wrap my head around Maxwell turning 8 years old this week! For his birthday party this year, we’re throwing him a low-key, at-home party with his closest friends and family in an effort to save money. Jeremy is scheduled for surgery Monday morning for his knee, which could mean anywhere from 1 to 8 weeks off of work. This being right after Christmas, and Max’s birthday was a bit of a shock. But, when they call with an opening – you take it! Growing up, also having a January birthday, I remember having a lot of parties at home. We did sledding parties, dance parties, sleepover parties,…

  • Why You Shouldn’t Make New Year’s Resolutions

Year after year, we find ourselves persuaded into making New Year’s Resolutions. That January 1st means a clean slate; new year, new you. Year after year, we forget about them by the end of January, if not sooner. We’ve been doing it wrong! In my opinion, resolutions are too general, and not easily measurable. In 2019, I am making GOALS! Smart goals are well thought out, easily measurable, and have a specific end result. By making goals instead of resolutions, you’ll be able to set a clear path to success, and be able to track your progress throughout the year. I’d now like to share a few of my goals…

  • Recharging Before the New Year

The week after Christmas and before you start working on all those New Year Resolutions, is the perfect time to relax, recharge, and reflect. I think this is the only week in the year when it’s not only perfectly acceptable, but encouraged to do nothing. Leading up to Christmas is a time of year filled with not only joy and family, but a lot of stress. Many feeling stressed financially, or through expectations, or maybe just the sheer busy-ness of the holiday season. Catch those elusive Zzz’sNot only are you not able to sleep as much as you’d like because, well, adulting. Whether you’re working full time or have kiddos…

  • Wyatt’s 18 Month Baby Update

We officially have a toddler on our hands! In light of having officially relaunched this blog a couple of months ago, I thought it was about time to formally introduce you to Wyatt over here. Wyatt turned a year and a half on November 9th, but I wanted to wait until after his doctor appointment before making this post/video. Wyatt is a talking machine now! Never do I get a quiet moment when he’s awake. Some of the most recent additions to his ever growing vocabulary include: flower, spicy, Cheesies, go away, and doodles (noodle). I am beyond pleased with his language development as this was an area of worry…

  • Toddler Christmas Gift Guide

Finding things to get your toddler for Christmas can be challenging. They’ve outgrown the baby toys. They’re not old enough for anything that has small parts. And they seen to tire of things very easily! I’ve compiled a list of gifts that I think would be a toddler very happy! Imaginative ToysA play kitchen holds seemingly unlimited hours of fun. Wyatt is always drawn to the kitchen play area at our local library when we go, as well has his cousin’s play BBQ kitchen setup. We pretend to make lunch, and eat play food for hours on end. Though they are big, and can be an eye sore in you…

  • Reclaiming My Body | My Postpartum Fitness Journey

After putting together my YouTube video schedule for November, writing down ‘Wyatt’s 18 Month Update”, I realized my body has been sustaining another human in one way or another for 27 freaking months! That is wild! I have started the process of weaning Wyatt. I’ve been breastfeeding for almost 18 months now and am just feeling ‘done’. I had no goal going into my breastfeeding journey, having not breastfed Maxwell, and am super proud to have made it this far. I can go into more details about these topics another day. But it’s time. I want my body back for myself. Since the summer especially, I have been working pretty…

  • A New Era

Welcome to (another) new era of ’emilynmax’! I know I have relaunched this blog a number of times but, as always, I hope this time will be different. I haven’t been posting on here consistently for years and I’ve missed it. With this new era; this relaunched, new and improved ’emilynmax’, the content is going to be a bit different than before. I have rekindled my love affair with books. I started sharing this love on my family YouTube channel, ‘emilynfamily‘ and have had so much support. Therefore, there will be a lot of bookish content featured here, but also beauty, as in the past, and motherhood topics. Hence, the…
