Best Romantasy 2024, so far

I have been deep into my fantasy romance era. I wanted to share the best romantasy I’ve read so far this year. A Q1 update if you will 😉 Let me know if you have any romantasy book recommendations for me.

The Shepherd King duology by Rachel Gillig

I have completely fallen in love with this gothic YA romantasy duology. Set in the misty, foresty kingdom of Blunder. We have an interesting tarot card like magic system. Found family elements as our group tries to assemble the full deck of cards to cure the kingdom of the magical mist.

Full review for the first book HERE. Review for the second one to come soon.

The Never King by Nikki St. Crowe

A dark fantasy romance Peter Pan retelling. Peter Pan is missing his shadow because one the Darling’s took it from him. He has spent generations trying to get it back.

This dark why-choose romance book is short, and will definitely cure a reading slump. I feel like I flew through this. I was so much fun! It had more intriguing fantasy elements than I was expecting. I love how vicious the Lost Boys are.

This will be featured in an upcoming reading vlog on my BookTube channel.

Manacled by SenLinYu

A DARK Draco and Hermoine fan fiction. There are a plethora of trigger warnings for this read, and I encourage you to actually pay attention to them. This was a hard read, but SO well done!

Manacled begins as if Voldemort won the war, and Harry Potter is dead. He needs to replenish the powerful wizarding population so creates a breeding program like the Handmaid’s Tale. Hermoine is sent off to produce offspring for the Malfoy bloodline.

A traditional publisher has picked up the right for this. It is current;y being rewritten to not include the Harry Potter elements. I am really curious to read the new version as well.

This was my first fanfic, and it definitely won’t be my last. If you are interested in this book, I’d download it ASAP. Oftentimes, when a fanfic gets picked up for publishing, the original fanfic is taken down.

Never by Jessa Hastings

Another fantasy romance Peter Pan retelling. Are you sensing a themed reading vlog coming your way?

Jessa Hastings has a love it or hate it writing style that is unlike anything I have every experienced before. I have been absolutely enamored by it.

Similar to her Magnolia Parks series, we are following deeply flawed characters making bad decisions, however this is set on Neverland. It was such a refreshing take on the fairytale, exploring the personality traits of Peter Pan, but when he’s a bit older.

Have you read any of these?
