KathleenLights Made Me Buy It

Hey guys! If you’d like to know where I’ve been,  you can check out my last post here.

I’d like to start a new series on my blog, similar to the ‘YouTube Made Me Buy It’ videos that have been floating around on YouTube for quite sometime now, but with a twist, I’d like to focus on one YouTuber at a time. I watch so many amazing ‘beauty gurus’, ‘makeup artists’, ‘makeup junkies’, whatever you’d like to call them, (or what they like to call themselves), that convince me to buy a product for one reason or another. I follow them all for different reasons, whether it be personality alone, skin tone, skin type, hair type, etc.

The first YouTuber in the hot seat is: KathleenLights.

Kathleen has considerable consumer purchasing influence over her viewers, because of her 1.8 million subscribers(which is growing very quickly). This has been clearly demonstrated after her RCMA No Color Powder review went live, it sold out very quickly off multiple sites that carried the product.

If you’ve been a reader of this blog for awhile, you’d know that Kathleen is my absolute favourite YouTuber, and has been for quite some time. I love her personality, and we also have the same skin tone; exact same foundation shades (when she is not fake tanning), and we have similar makeup preferences, wants etc.

So here are five products that stood out to me, that she ‘made’ me buy:

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette – This is Kathleen’s number one favourite eyeshadow palette, and I can see why. It smells like chocolate, the shadows blend like a dream, and every shade is very wearable, but not all neutral. This was my first high-end palette purchase, and I choose it because Kathleen said it was the best.

Too Faced Cocoa Contour Kit – This is Kathleen’s favourite contour palette (there’s a theme here obviously). This palette also smells like chocolate, which is something I love about these Too Faced products. Light cocoa is perfect for brightening under the eyes, and setting concealer, medium cocoa is a great contour shade for me, and dark cocoa is a beautiful warm bronzer. I’ve done a full review here. I chose this over other contour palettes that are on the market, because 1) if Kathleen loved it, I assumed I would too, 2) it contains the only shades I need, and 3) it was slightly cheaper because it has four shades versus six.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer – A classic drugstore concealer. It’s inexpensive, comparable to some high-end products, blends beautifully, decent shade range. For me, this concealer is my holy grail for under the eyes.

Milani Tantastic Baked Bronzer in Fantastic in Gold – This is the one product I’m mentioning today, that I don’t think is the bees knees. It’s not bad, just not completely my thing. I don’t mind if my bronzer has a bit of shimmer to it, especially in the warmer months. But, this product is so glowy and shimmery, that it would make the perfect warm highlight, but for deep skin tones. I love using this product on my body in the summertime when I have a good tan going, but it just doesn’t work for me on the face. Again, a stunning product, but not for someone as fair as me if used as a highlight, and it has too much shimmer for me to like it as a bronzer.

Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Medium to Dark – This bronzer is fabulous! It warms up the complexion beautifully, is super blendable, and provides a bit of a glow. Physicians Formula is a brand at the drugstore that produces really great bronzers for the most part, so pick this up if you’re looking for a great budget bronzer that’s not shimmery.

I know this post is quite bronzer heavy, but I was struggling to find a great bronzer and contour shade for my skin tone so I just bought a bunch of her recommendations awhile ago.

If you like the idea of this series, please leave a comment so I know whether to continue. Also, I do have a few ideas of which YouTuber’s to do next but, let me know who your favourite YouTuber’s are below that you’d like to see next; any excuse to buy more makeup 😉 “RESEARCH” haha.
