  • Blurred, Not Bold

This beauty trend has been trying to gain traction for almost a year but I think I’m finally ready to hop on this train. It is the blurred, blotted, soft matte, stain effect lip. Could I have possibly used any more adjectives? The first of which I saw was from my fave – ColourPop with their Ultra Blotted Lip US$6 followed by the Blur Lux Lipstick US$7. Although I am partial to ColourPop because of their affordable prices and amazing shade ranges, many other brands have released products which will give you a similar effect on the lips at a variety of price points: NYX Powder Puff Lippie Powder Lip…

  • Why You Shouldn’t Make New Year’s Resolutions

Year after year, we find ourselves persuaded into making New Year’s Resolutions. That January 1st means a clean slate; new year, new you. Year after year, we forget about them by the end of January, if not sooner. We’ve been doing it wrong! In my opinion, resolutions are too general, and not easily measurable. In 2019, I am making GOALS! Smart goals are well thought out, easily measurable, and have a specific end result. By making goals instead of resolutions, you’ll be able to set a clear path to success, and be able to track your progress throughout the year. I’d now like to share a few of my goals…

  • Thank You Berry Much

So  many palettes being released have a stunning berry pink twist. Most recently, is the Dominique Cosmetics Berries & Cream palette. I for one, am very glad to be moving away from the boring, warm palettes, and trying something new. These rich berry tones are so complementary and perfect for the cooler months. • COVERGIRL is Now Cruelty Free!

Last week, this revolutionary news broke out across the beauty space. I was one of the many (im)patiently waiting on Logical Harmony‘s seal of approval. Well folks, we now have it! Logical Harmony is the world’s most trusted source for cruelty-free and vegan beauty as well as lifestyle products. Tashina dove in deep to discover the truth behind COVERGIRL’s new Cruelty-Free International certification. Earlier today, Logical Harmony posted the second video in their “Is COVERGIRL Cruelty-Free?” series, and the verdict is in! We are still waiting on COVERGIRL to release their vegan friendly products list to us. This may take some time, as they have to go through every ingredient,…

  • Moving Onto Smaller and Better Things

Who says bigger is always better? New trend in the makeup community: smaller palettes! Gone are the days when we wanted the huge, 35 pan palettes. Give us all the 5, and 9 pans. Not only are they easier to store and travel with, you get use out of every single shade! Along with their smaller size, you’re seeing smaller price tags as well. More and more, we’re seeing these pint-sized palettes being released from brands like Huda Beauty, Natasha Denona, and Dose of Colors. Have you been into the smaller palettes as much as I have? Which one are you planning on buying next?Photo Credit: Temptalia

  • Morphe’s in Sephora Canada!

The ever popular, affordable makeup brand, Morphe, has now reached Sephora Canada, albeit online only for most of us, and with a smaller product range than available on their site. They will be launching in 15 stores Canada-wide. Last year, Morphe entered Ulta stores across the border, in the U.S., which fans of the brand were very excited about as it seemed to be a good fit. I’ve seen a lot of negative feedback on Twitter about this. People feel that Morphe and Sephora are not a good match, and that they’ll be gone again after the holidays. Similar to what we saw happening with ColourPop last year. My opinion?…

  • A New Era

Welcome to (another) new era of ’emilynmax’! I know I have relaunched this blog a number of times but, as always, I hope this time will be different. I haven’t been posting on here consistently for years and I’ve missed it. With this new era; this relaunched, new and improved ’emilynmax’, the content is going to be a bit different than before. I have rekindled my love affair with books. I started sharing this love on my family YouTube channel, ‘emilynfamily‘ and have had so much support. Therefore, there will be a lot of bookish content featured here, but also beauty, as in the past, and motherhood topics. Hence, the…

  • Review | Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation

The Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation was a product I was super excited to get my hands on the second in landed in Canada. I’ve been testing it for quite some time now and want to share my thoughts with you guys. Claims “Innovation: Our 1st gel-whipped foundation. Fresh, new and flawless… Dream Velvet whips a fresh gel into a velvet-soft texture. Complexion is perfected and smooth with a soft-matte finish, just like velvet. Skin feels fresh with lasting hydration.” Product Overview The packaging is basic but it works. I prefer my foundations to either have a pump, or be in a tube like this one is. I feel…

  • January Favourites | 2017

I can’t believe this is the first favourites post of the year (if you don’t count my Best of Beauty video). I try and either do a blog post, or a YouTube video containing my favourites each month. If you’re not subscribed to my YouTube channels, be sure to head over there and do that – I’ve been posting a ton lately *pats self on back*. For more beauty content like you see here you can go to emilynmax, and if you’re interested in more mommy style videos/ vlogs you can go to emilynfamily which is a new channel I’ve started. • January Ipsy Bag | 2017

The first Ipsy bag of 2017. I was expecting another knock-out bag, but this month left me wanting more. The theme this month is Metropolis. I love the sporty vibe of the bag this month, the metallic mesh overlay reminds me of the 90s for some reason. Global Beauty Care Dead Sea Mask – I love a good deep cleansing mask once a week, more if I’m breaking out really bad. This claims to draw out dirt and impurities, peel away dead skin cells, restore elasticity, and fortify with essential moisturizers. It’s strange for this type of mask to claim to be moisturizing, so I’m excited to give this a…
